CBC Saturday: SUNDIN!!!!! And Your Announcing Schedule For Hockey Night in Canada This Week

We were a bit curious as to why, after what a circus the Mats Sundin nonsense was, neither national network in Canada broadcast his first game, in Edmonton on Wednesday.  Were sure Rogers Sportsnet had no interest whatsoever in giving up the rights, but CBC and TSN usually get what they want.

Well, Hockey Night in Canada has Sundin this week, and is sending half of it’s “A”-team to the game.  Here’s the announcing schedule for this Saturday’s edition of HNIC.  What follows after the jump is the CBC’s entire press release for Sundin-o-rama this weekend.

A beloved Toronto Maple Leaf for thirteen years.  The longest serving European captain in the NHL and the Leafs’ all-time leading scorer.  And now a Vancouver Canuck. Mats Sundin returns to CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA on Saturday, Jan. 10, making his national television debut with the Canucks as they take on the red-hot San Jose Sharks at GM Place in Vancouver.  The highly-anticipated Western Conference match-up is one of four games presented by CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA on Saturday night.

Kicking off the evening at 6:30 p.m. ET is Scotiabank Hockey Tonight as host Ron MacLean primes viewers for the full night of hockey.  At 7 p.m. ET, the Flyers host the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia (full network minus B.C., Alberta, Quebec and Ottawa), while viewers in Quebec, B.C. and Alberta will see Alex Ovechkin lead the Washington Capitals against the Canadiens in Montreal.  Viewers in the nation’s capital will see the Senators host the New York Rangers.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader at 10 p.m. ET, all eyes will be on General Motors Place in Vancouver as Sundin, the Sedin twins and the Canucks face off against Joe Thornton and the powerhouse San Jose Sharks. Following the game, Sundin joins Scott Oake and Marc Crawford for a live, in-depth interview on After Hours, the post-game show.

Hockey fans can visit CBCSports.ca 24 hours a day, seven days a week for live and on-demand video streaming of all games as well as comprehensive NHL coverage, including weekly columns from CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA personalities, breaking news, in-depth reports, broadcast schedules and more.
