Caps Outdraw Pens on VERSUS

With no local markets factoring in, the ratings for VERSUS games would probably be a good determining factor in what hockey fans across the country prefer watching as far as teams and stars go.  I think you know where I’m going here.  Yes, I’m turning this into a Crosby/Ovechkin thing.  Anyway, looks like this round goes to Alexander the great as the Capitals out-rated the Penguins over the weekend, via John Ourand’s Twitter:

OTT/PIT Game 2: 519,000 households
DET/PHX Game 2: 408,000 households
MTL/WSH Game 2: 549,000 households
PIT/OTT Game 3: 492,000 households

Of course, it could also be due to the draw of the Canadiens and their fans around North America, has the Sens are a bit of a buzzkill team.  But it appears hockey fans give Alex Ovechkin their due over the weekend for now.  From the looks of their current series, we’ll be seeing a lot more of them on VERSUS during the tournament.

Could it be that Penguin Fans like myself are willing to watch other teams play because we enjoy the game of hockey? Are newer Caps fans at that point yet?

Ottawa just bores the heck out of me. I mean Alfredson and Spezza are great but you know they are going to lose. They always do……there is always the possiblity that Washington might choke. That’s makes it interesting. Plus the Washington and Montreal crowds are probably the best in the NHL.

I just don’t understand this comment. Ottawa went to the SCF a few years back, which is more than most teams can say for themselves post-lockout. I could say that I know Washington is going to lose… they always do! Or Phoenix, or Montreal or Vancouver or Chicago or any of the other teams in the playoffs who haven’t won the Cup in the last little while.

If they’re boring, that’s one thing. But to say that you know they’re going to lose because they always do? That doesn’t make sense.

I think what this really says is Detroit doesn’t really turn people on. They are great but personally I can live without watching them. They are skilled but aren’t physical and never fight. I also hate watching games from Joe Louis Arena for some reason…..
