BREAKING NEWS: Bruins-Sharks Draws Biggest Regular-Season Audience in NHL on VERSUS History
February 12, 2009 5 Comments
According to John Ryan of the San Jose Mercury News:
The Sharks’ 5-2 victory against the Bruins on Tuesday was the highest-rated and most-watched regular-season game in Versus’ four years with the NHL. It drew a 0.54 household rating nationally (550,000 viewers) and was 69 percent above the network’s average for the season.
This is great news for the network and the league that an inter-conference Stanley Cup Final preview like this is drawing great ratings. If Sharks-Bruins is drawing what Red Wings-Penguins did on VERSUS earlier in the season, than I’m certain the NHL won’t have a problem with either team moving far into the playoffs. We’ll see if we can get more details on this later in the day. Stay tuned.
The fact that this game involved two of the best teams in the league, (and neither were the Red Wings) and got this good of a rating is excellent news not only for Versus, but also for the NHL. It proves that fans will seek and out and watch a good matchup, even if “The Worldwide Leader” continues to give the league next to no promotion.
NHL “won’t have a problem”…….are you implying that the playoffs are fixed like the NBA
It seems to me that a .54 rating is still pretty small. The NHL needs to get back on ESPN if they want more visibibility
Leafsfan1967, you are wrong.
This is part of the proof that the league doesn’t need jokespn. Will this game get more viewers on Versus or JOKESPN Classic? Thought so.
All i know this is great for hockey and the ratings will continue to grow with Bruins Hawks Rangers in the Cup Mix!!!!
