As it Turns Out, Canadians Are Fond of Hockey

Toronto, ON (December 29, 2011) – Canada’s World Juniors holiday tradition continues! According to the latest audience data from BBM Canada, TSN’s coverage of Canada’s decisive victory over Finland on Boxing Day attracted an average audience of 2.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched program of the day on Canadian television in all key demographics.

Overall, 5.45 million Canadians tuned in to watch some, or all, of TSN’s World Juniors Boxing Day game.

TSN finished the day (Dec. 26 full day) as the most-watched television network in Canada.

Viewers were also engaged online as registered 45,000 live streams of the game and 155,000 views of World Juniors video content on Boxing Day (source: Omniture). Canada’s industry-leading sports website also had 42,000 fans participating in its integrated live chat during the Canada-Finland game.

TSN’s brand-new TSN Check-In app on Facebook – giving fans the ability to “check in” from around the world and show that they are cheering on Team Canada – has more than 20,000 registered users, with fans checking in from across Canada and as far away as Japan, New Zealand, Qatar, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

TSN’s coverage of the 2012 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP continues tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET as Team Canada takes on Denmark.
