Local Ratings For Red Wings/Blackhawks in Detroit a Tad Soft

From Sports Media Watch via Pifeedback.com:

NBC’s Red Wings/Blackhawks game drew a 5.9 in Detroit (peaked with an 8.4) and a 5.3 in Chicago (peaked with a 6.5).

This seems sort of low, right?  For Detroit, at least.  The ratings in Chicago topple any rating on Comcast Sportsnet or WGN this season, or either of the network’s records for Hawks telecasts.  Also, the January 31st telecast against the Pittsburgh Penguins drew a 7.8 in Detroit.  Ratings in the market for the January 17th game vs. the Hawks are unavailable.  I know there was a Michigan/Michigan St. game later in the day, but the two would not have been competing.  So what happened here?

I think interest in the Red Wings is falling off. They aren’t selling out games anymore. Having a team in ninth place for maybe the first time in 20 years doesn’t help either.

A 1.2 overnight rating with low local ratings is great news for the NHL.
