EXCLUSIVE: Bob Harwood Joins the Hurricanes

Former VERSUS reporter Bob Harwood will head south this season.

Harwood, who worked with The NHL on VERSUS from it’s beginning as The NHL on OLN in 2005, confirmed to Puck the Media last night that he will be joining the FS Carolinas broadcast crew for the Carolina Hurricanes. He will serve as host and in-game reporter alongside John Forslund (play-by-play) and Tripp Tracy (color) for the 67 broadcasts FS Carolinas is airing throughout the 2011-12 NHL season.

Harwood was let go by VERSUS after the NBC/Comcast merger, in which NBC’s hockey broadcasting philosophy was put to work on the VERSUS broadcasts, which left all of the network’s reporters without gigs in favor of inside the glass analysts. He continued to do occasional work for the network during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and was in the locker rooms for NHL Network during the Stanley Cup Final.

Good for him even though I like the Inside the Glass much better than ice level reporters. Right now, he going to work for the Hurricanes.

Charissa Thompson is now working for ESPN and has her own show Numbers Never Lie on ESPN 2 which airs at 3:30 p.m. ET every weekday. Though I never watch ESPN and never will, she looks like she wants revenge on NBC/VERSUS for firing her from her ice level reporting. Last game to do ice level reporting for VERSUS was the All Star Game last year.

Lindsay Soto is currently working for NFL Network after she got fired from VERSUS as well. Even though last March during the MAC Basketball Championship, I saw her for the first time on TV since she did the Kings-Stars game on MLK day.

I know those kind of people that were fired from VERSUS, wants revenge on NBC/VERSUS, but that will never happen.

Stephen’s facts are well off. As Arthur mentioned the Versus jobs were second jobs for both reporters. Thompson’s main job was with Fox and BTN as a sideline reporter. Soto has been with NFL Net since 2008, before she started filling doing spot duty for Versus. Chris Simpson and Harwood were screwed since they had nothing to fall back on when they were let go. They deserved better.
And just to clarify, Soto never worked MAC games. That’s another blonde cutie named Allie Laforce who works for WJW and STO in Cleveland.

Are you nuts? These people are just looking for work and income. Harwood has a toddler so my guess is that his first priority is feeding his family, not revenge towards a former employer. Lindsay and Charissa both worked other jobs while employed by Versus. I would be very surprised if they were holding grudges while one works for ESPN and the other for the NFL.
