We have some very good news to report for those readers who are Devils fans: Doc Emrick will return to MSG Plus’ New Jersey Devils broadcast team on Saturday in Los Angeles, after battling laryngitis and then mourning his father’s death.

On a much less somber note, Doc takes on Dallas Stars play-by-play man Ralph Strangis in Round 3 of our Tourney of Announcers.  Voting lasts 24 hours, so start now.

First things’ first, Howie Rose defeats Rick Jeanneret to move on to face-off with Dave Strader in the elite eight.  Next up, we have another Cinderella bid, this one coming from Bruins announcer and #8 seed Jack Edwards.  He takes on legend and CBC mainstay Bob Cole.  Voting lasts 24 hours, get to gettin’!

As you know, we take care of business to start this thing.  Bob Cole moved on, beating Mike Haynes in that first round face-off.  We have yet another one for you today.  It’s a 6-3, featuring Columbus’ Jeff Rimer and the Rangers/NHL Radio’s Sam Rosen.  Voting’s open for 24 hours, Enjoy!

Well, this took a while to re-start, but let’s keep on keepin’ on.  First things first, we have another upset, and another #1 seed goes down.  Jack Edwards beats Chris Cuthbert.  Somehow, we suspect Cornelius Hardenbergh and his gang of knuckleheads had something to do with it.

Anyway, it’s Avs play-by-play man Mike Haynes taking on Hall of Famer and CBC legend Bob Cole.  Voting for 24 hours, is open.  Enjoy!

First of all, down to business: Howie Rose eeked out an “upset” over Mark Lee to finish off the Gallivan bracket.  The second round for that one stands as follows:

#8 – Paul Steigerwald
vs.
#2 – Dave Strader

#5 – Howie Rose
vs.
#3 – Rick Jeanneret

Those matches will take place in a couple of weeks.  Now we move on to the Dan Kelly bracket, and an interesting litmus test for the readers of this blog.  We do a regular feature on Jack Edwards, yet we love Chris Cuthbert.  A paradox, indeed.  Voting lasts 24 hours, enjoy!

First of all, Friday’s result: Rick Jeanneret plows his way through to round two, beating Anaheim/Versus guy John Ahlers.  Now we have one of our favorite matchups of the first round: Islanders (and Mets, but well, that doesn’t really count if you don’t have a Mets bias, which we do) play-by-play man Howie Rose vs. CBC’s Mark Lee.  I’m curious to see how the voting goes on this one.  Polls close at 5:30 PM Monday.  Enjoy!

As usual, we recap yesterday’s match first of all.  Dave Strader strolled to a victory over Peter Loubardias, and will take on Paul Steigerwald in Round 2.  Next up, we have an interesting one, as Ducks/VERSUS play-by-play man John Ahlers takes on Buffalo Sabres legend Rick Jeanneret.  Should be an interesting one.  Voting ends at 5:30 Saturday, and we’ll be back with one more Gallivan Bracket match on Monday.

We Have a Correction, and an Upset in Our Tournament of Announcers

Well, in a shocking turn of events (and a link to this tourney by The Pensblog) it shows that Paul Steigerwald has pulled off a late first round upset of Jim Hughson!  This is simply shocking news, and will simply throw into chaos the rest of this tourney.

Simply shocking.

First of all, we had a landslide victory for Jim Hughson over Paul Steigerwald in the first match in this bracket.  He moves on to round two.  Who will win this 7-2 contest?  We have Calgary’s Peter Loubardias, and Phoenix/VERSUS play-by-play man (and old-school ESPN guy) Dave Strader up against one another.  Voting ends at 5:30 PM Tomorrow.  Enjoy!

First of all, Pat Foley won our last match, so the top four seeds move on in the Foster Hewitt Brackett.  Our second round matchups there are:

#4 Seed – Pat Foley
vs.
#1 Seed – Mike Emrick

#3 Seed – Joe Beninati
vs.
#2 Seed – Ralph Strangis

In a couple weeks time, we’ll be on to that.  For now, it’s Pittsburgh’s Paul Steigerwald looking to pull off an upset vs. CBC’s top play-by-play man Jim Hughson.  Vote now, it ends at 5:30.
