Kings Sweep of St. Louis Draws Playoff Low

The Los Angeles Kings first appearance on national television since 2007, and clinching game of their Western Conference Semifinals against the St. Louis Blues, drew the lowest ratings for a Stanley Cup Playoff game on NBC this post-season.

The Kings’ 3-1 victory over the Blues drew a 1.0 overnight rating on Sunday afternoon. While there was no comparable post-season game over the past few years, the number is still the lowest for a Stanley Cup Playoff game on NBC since the opening round in 2009 (WSH/NYR Game 6, 4/26/09). It is tied for the second-lowest playoff overnight ever on NBC. The Blues and Kings had a combined one appearance on NBC since 2007 before yesterday.

Stanley Cup Playoff action on NBC is averaging a 1.7 overnight rating through four weeks and ten telecasts. It remains well on pace to be the highest-rated playoffs ever on the network.

Rangers/Capitals Game 4 Up From Game 1 on Derby Day

Despite perhaps a weaker timeslot, Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal between the Rangers and Capitals drew the best overnight for a Saturday game during these playoffs.

Game 4 of the series drew a 1.6 overnight rating on NBC Saturday, better than the 1.5 the prior three Saturday afternoon tilts (including Game 1 of the series) drew in previous weeks. There hasn’t been a comparable game since 2008, when the Penguins eliminated the Rangers and also drew a 1.5 overnight.

This was despite the game airing at 12:30 p.m. ET, a much less convenient timeslot than the usual playoff 3 p.m. ET starts. The game began earlier due to the Kentucky Derby airing on NBC later in the day.
