NBC to Air Three Straight Penguins/Flyers Games to End Their Season

This might be looked at as NBC taking one step forward and one step back after my post from earlier today.

NBC revealed – in the same post of their listings as their playoff coverage – that they will air Philadelphia at Pittsburgh as their NHL Game of the Week on both April 1st at 12:30 p.m. ET and April 7th – the final day of the 2011-12 season – at 1 p.m. ET. This will mean the Pens/Flyers was the Game of the Week for NBC’s final three windows of the season, a feat that has never been matched.

The NBC Sports Group had four games (Pens/Flyers, Capitals/Rangers, Red Wings/Blackhawks and Bruins/Sabres) to choose from on April 7th. Two will be shunted to NBC Sports Network for a hockey tripleheader to be completed following Philadelphia/Pittsburgh. That said, you can’t blame the network for wanted to get Sidney Crosby on as much as possible after not having him most of the season.

  1. They might get to show PHI-PIT a few more times in the first round. I thought they should have waited to see if CHI or BUF had win and in games on April 7 (or lose and out), but I suppose if they are on NBC SN, its not a huge issue.

  2. Al says:

I think they have already given BUF/BOS back to the local networks.

  3. Jeff says:

Here the network goes with shoving Crosby down our throats again…
