smart. i had predicted this yesterday. given what they’ve learned this weekend, do you think late afternoon or evening start times could permanently be in the future at the Winter Classic events?

I think they like the 1pm start so they can avoid the Rose Bowl. But I think the 8pm slot could work, since most years the game after the Rose Bowl is far less appealing (see UConn/Oklahoma & the dreadful rating last year that helped the NFL.)

Basically, they need to avoid the Rose Bowl to capture casual fans.

so john collins felt that it impacted last years rating because non followers would have thought they were watching the classic when they showed replays…i think this hurts them as many viewers/ fans made their plans and will now dvr or miss it all together…when you also consider that its not on new years as it was jast few…it will be a ratings disaster…it will be lowest of all WC games.

ud think this league would have accounted for things like if the game faces sunny vs partly cloudly when is this sun shinning down on them? so my recommendation is to send people out now to possible locations to see when the sun is at its worst, so they have this more down to a science…wth did they spend millions on for this ice machine if it cant handle this? why didnt they review situations as to when sun will be at its worst cast down for these locations? dont count on sun belt locations for any WC games…get real people…nbc cant be happy with another game time change..i predict a disaster in ratings…another amature hour

  3. Jack says:

It won’t be a disaster given the marketing campaign and the markets involved….
