Tuesday’s Pens-Wild Down From Last Year, Still Draws Well Without Pittsburgh Market

VERSUS continues to have up and down ratings early in the season, while still airing games that won’t be exclusive in some of the markets of the teams playing.

The network’s broadcast of Pittsburgh (where the game aired on ROOT Sports) and Minnesota (where it aired on VERSUS) on Tuesday drew 286,000 viewers, by far topping last Tuesday’s Florida-Pittsburgh game (216,000) as the best of the non-exclusive VERSUS telecasts so far this season. That was, however, down 15% from last year’s exclusive broadcast on Boston-Washington (335,000 viewers on 10/19/10).

The NHL Live pre-game drew just 62,000, down 66% from a pre-game edition of Hockey Central a year ago. The NHL Live airing directly after the Pittsburgh win, drew 130,000 viewers, down 17% from Hockey Central last year (155,000 viewers). NHL Live held onto 45% of the game’s audience, whereas last year’s Hockey Central held onto 53%. NHL Overtime at 10:30 p.m. ET drew 55,000 viewers.
