HNIC Sets New Record as Game 1 Viewership Hits 10 Million Across NBC and CBC

Via Elliotte Friedman on Twitter:

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup was highest rated NHL game ever on HNIC: 5.6 million. Previous record: 4.9 million, 1994 Game 7 VAN/NYR.

5.6 added to the NBC total means that over 10.1 million viewers saw Game 1 across the continent. Well done, hockey fans!

Like I said, when we saw the Final 4 teams, Canucks/Bruins is the best matchup for the NHL. I’m guessing Game 2 will be down a little and obviously games 3 and 4 will be less (On Versus) but we could see some really surprising numbers from both NBC and CBC if this goes 6 or 7 games.

CBC peaked at almost 8 million. NBC peaked over 5 million. That’s almost 14 million in North America. The NBA did 15 million for game 1. If you are Gary Bettman you must be pretty happy
