  1. Patrick says:

Why would NBC build a studio for the NHL Network???? Also earlier this year, John Collins and Charles Coplin said they’d be building an HD studio in the old Rogers Sports Studio (TSN studios). Why now would they have 2? Is NBC buying the NHL Network? Will that be where they stick games in the playoffs? This 1 has me confused. Apparently the new NHL Network Studio (in Canada) will be here in time for start of next season, which is when the Canada Feed goes HD.

Only hope is with a studio built in CT, perhaps John Buccigross will be the face of this USA NHL Network (like whats his face for NFL Network). This has me confused with lots of question. Steve you should interview someone from league on this CT Studio thing.

    • Kevin says:

Almost positive NHL Network (In the U.S) is run by Comcast/NBC.. It’s a partnership between the NHL and Comcast (Versus) that was part of the original deal in 2005. Comcast basically had to build and create NHL Network (In the U.S).. It was set-up in in 2007, I believe.. Now NBC and Comcast are 1 company.

      • Martin says:

Comcast owns a very small stake in network but doesn’t program the network. Anything technical is handled by Ascent Media while the league’s broadcasting arm along with it’s Canadian partners (TSN) handle the programming.

  2. Martin says:

Currently the NHL Network lacks any facilities in the States. The fishbowl at the Reebok store doesn’t count. They can use it for pre-games,interviews, and programming. Now that NHL Live is tv only, they need a real studio especially if they want to expand programming. NBC isn’t buying the network, just sharing facilities.

  3. Colton says:

Versus and NHL Network studios are going to be in the same city, so there’s going to be personalities going back and forth. What it does mean, is the loss of all Canadian tv personalities on the NHL Network. Maybe Mike Johnson and Kevin Weekes will be permenant members in the US, but no Bob Mackenzie or Darren Dreger at least in studio.

Do we know this for sure? Do we know that there will be complete separation of the two operations or are we just speculating?

I have to say that I’m not sure that a two completely different networks or faces of the NHL Network is necessarily a good thing.

I sure hope this doesn’t mean a total end to Hockey Night in Canada on the NHL Network….

      Time will tell.
