A Puck the Media Project: NHL Overtime vs. NHL On the Fly, A Night-by-Night, Two Week Experiment

I’m currently on my final winter break before my final semester of college, folks (I hope). So I’ve been thinking of something to do in the time between now and when I have to bother myself with schooling again. I thought I’d give this a try. Probably for the best, as it has been a while since the last time I gave either of these shows a critical look. After a couple of months to find themselves since they began competing, I thought it’d be fair to compare the two.

Here’s what going to happen: Every night, I’m going to watch the 11:00 PM ET edition of VERSUS’ NHL Overtime, and the 1:00 AM ET, “final” edition of NHL On the Fly, and simply compare and contrast. Lead stories, lead games, focus on any and all NHL controversies, interview pieces, anchors and analysts. A mere experiment in how the two shows that cover the NHL extensively and air within the borders of these United States are doing during the NHL’s busy season headed into the All-Star break.

While this is going on, I’d love to get your individual takes on each show. Leave them in the comments, in an e-mail, or on Twitter. I’ll try and write back or possibly post your thoughts in one of the pieces. You’ll see each bit Tuesday-Friday (Overtime only airs Monday-Thursday, of course) around 10:00 AM ET, so I hope you’ll enjoy it.

I personally like On The Fly over the NHL Overtime on the basis of OTF shows every goal and the has their tv people and their original calls. JMO Kevin
