Oh GOODY the return of the Benihaha ONLY on Versus! 🙂

    • Josh says:

Hey Leafsfan – I’ve never watched (or should that be “endured”) a game that Beninati has called. What makes him so bad?

      • Chris S says:

If you’ve ever watched a Capitals game on Centre Ice, he’s their annoying-as-f-word announcer.

Beninati: (For the 1000th time in the broadcast) “We’re so glad you tuned in to the NHL on Versus in High Definition” (For the 2000th time in the broadcast); “We’d like to thank the fine men and women in our crew for bringing you this telecast on Versus.”

His voice annoys the hell out of me. I’m gladly listening to Gord Miller tonight.

      • nosferatu says:

I would call him “jingoistic.” He reminds me of an announcer for an annoying radio commercial. Cheesy and full of cliches, too. Not to mention–and I suppose this is subjective–his voice is fairly grating. Give me the dulcet baritone of Sam Rosen any day.

  2. Mike in Idaho says:

I hope their camerawork is better tonight, last night’s DET/SJ game was almost unwatchable.

  3. nosferatu says:

They’re really pimping the Comcast connection this year on Versus, aren’t they? Visit CSNCalifornia.com after the game, visit CSNPhilly…

Not that it’s bad, but it’s very unusual to experience during any sports viewing.

…And sadly it means no CBC feeds for the JIP games.

My problem is mostly all the cliches he uses. Goalies don’t make saves they “melt it down”. There are may such examples of this. He seems to feel if he just calls the game people won’t like it. Sam Rosen is an excellent example of a guy who doesn’t use these goofy phrases and is first rate.

  6. leafsfan1967 says:

Dave Sullivan :‘Sadly.’ That’s an interesting way to put it.

Sadly IS the right word! If you spend any time watching a CBC feed with Jim Hughson is doing play by play, you will see the way that a hockey game should be broadcast. At their very best Versus doesn’t come close to the quality of a CBC broadcast.
