Well, I Guess We Know What the NHL Network Thinks Is An Exciting Game

As you’ll discover tomorrow, the NHL Network is playing a “Best of 09-10 So Far” marathon on Thanksgiving.  Here are the choices, according to NHL.com:

#1: Oct 6 – PHI 6, WSH 5 (OT)
#2: Oct 8 – PIT 5, PHI 4
#3: Oct 10 – BOS 4, NYI 3 (SO)
#4: Oct 12 – CHI 6, CGY 5 (OT)
#5: Oct 22 – NSH 6, OTT 5 (OT)
#6: Oct 24 – MTL 5, NYR 4 (OT)
#7: Oct 27 – DET 5, VAN 4
Anybody else notice a pattern?  We’re there no exciting 1-0 or even 2-1 games this season?  The fact is, the lowest scoring total of any of these is 7.  At least I can remember most of these as being tolerable.

I’m a little disappointed that Columbus’s 5-4 OT win against Washington a few weeks ago wasn’t on the list, given the apparent criteria. I thought that was a hell of a game, especially with the last-minute heroics from Raffi Torres.

  2. Ian Kidd says:

I’m sure that CBJ-WSH game was considered, especially when you consider the plethora of OT games that are on the final list. No real historically significant games (in terms of records, mikestones, etc.) this season — I imagine that if Brodeur had broken the shutout record that game would have been included as well.

Steve — you got any 1-0 or 2-1 games you’d like to nominate?

  3. Colton says:

Name a game this season that has been a low scoring exciting game.

Usually all of the exciting games are the higher scoring games with multiple lead changes and late games.

Um if you watch that game looking for the two teams to score seven goals, youre gonna wind up disappointed lol. The lowest scoring total of any of these is six, not seven. Remember, a SOW is not another GF for the winning team. The two teams scored three goals apiece, tied after regualtion, tied after OT, and then the Bruins got a made-up additional bonus point for “winning” a skills comepetition.

As far as this particular choice goes, UGH. They had to pick one of the only FAIL moments of the Islanders entire season so far, huh? Thanks for nothing, NHLN.

Everyone knows that the only entertaining hockey games are the high scoring ones.

  7. Matt says:

I believe the PIT v. BOS game a few weeks ago was the best game to date that I’ve seen. (yes i’m a homer).
