CBC Promotes Beginning Conference Final Coverage

It’s been Canada’s only home to the Stanley Cup for 56 years, and as of Friday, May 22, the tradition continues as CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA will be the nation’s exclusive home to the remainder of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs and 2009 Stanley Cup Final. All eyes will be on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, May 22 as Hockey Tonight, hosted by Ron MacLean, primes viewers for Game Three of the Western Conference Final. During the pre-game show, Inside Hockey features sophomore sensation Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks looking back at his teenage years and the time he spent living with former Detroit Red Wing Patrick Verbeek. Then at 8 p.m. ET, the first puck of the night drops as Kane and the Blackhawks host the Red Wings, as Chicago looks to rebound from a 2-0 series deficit. Play-by-play announcer Jim Hughson, analyst Craig Simpson and rinkside reporter Scott Oake will cover the series from Chicago along withKelly Hrudey and Mike Milbury.

CBC’s exclusive coverage of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs continues on Saturday, May 23 with Hockey Tonight at 7 p.m. ET as Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach Paul Maurice discusses his success behind the bench in Carolina during Inside Hockey, hosted by Elliotte Friedman. At 7:30 p.m. ET the tenacious Hurricanes hit home ice in Carolina to take on the high-flying Pittsburgh Penguins in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Final. Bob Cole and Greg Millen will call the series from RBC Center in Raleigh, alongside Friedman who will report from rinkside. The legendary Don Cherry returns to his usual spot on Coach’s Corner alongside MacLean in the first intermission, and The Hotstove discusses all of the latest news and behind-the-scenes happenings in the NHL during the second intermission.

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA Round Three playoff schedule continues on Sunday, May 24 at 3 p.m. ET with Game Four of the Detroit/Chicago series and on Tuesday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET with Game Four of the Pittsburgh / Carolina series.

Plus, every night immediately following CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA Round Three broadcasts, viewers can log onto CBCSports.ca for Stanley Cup Countdown, a 30-minute post-game show reviewing the game that just took place as well as a look ahead to the next game. Host Jeff Marek will be joined by Scott Morrison at the I-Desk, with contributions from P.J. Stock. The show will feature a mix of post-game interviews and coaches press conferences, game highlights, comments from online bloggers and discussions with Elliotte Friedman and Scott Oake from rinkside.

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA also presents Stanley Cup Interactive onCBCSports.ca throughout the entire 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hall of Fame journalist Scott Morrison and HNIC Sirius Satellite Radio host Jeff Marek will lead live chats with hockey fans across the country from the Stanley Cup I-Desk during all 2009 Stanley Cup Playoff games broadcast on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA. In addition to extensive coverage on CBCSports.ca, Kelly Hrudey, Scott Oake, Elliotte Freidman and Jeff Marek will provide members of the on-line community with live insider posts on Twitter and blogs throughout the playoffs.
