Ever get annoyed that NBC skips the first week of the Conference Finals? Well, those days appear to be going the way of the dodo. Because NBC is instead going to skip the 2nd week of Conference Semi-Finals coverage instead.
NBC is required to cover five hours of The Players Championship ever year. In past seasons, this fell at the start of the Conference Finals. This year, with the season ending a week late, it’ll instead be the Semis getting a weekend of VERSUS only. Here’s NBC’s listing for the rest of the next month or so.

Can you imagine, we’re going to be spending the next two months with these three knuckleheads? We had literally just sat down for the first intermission “Hockey Central” studio show, to hear the teaser for the next topic, which Bob Patrick so expertly teased:
Who’s the NHL’s comeback player of the year? We’ll tell you who the comeback player is when we… come back.
Really? REALLY? We at that moment yelled in anger at how boring that sounded, turned off the TV and left the room.
It’s not just that the VERSUS studio gang is talking generic hockey topics. You can hear the TSN crew discuss fairly similar things. But, instead of perhaps spending a little money and airing a pointless featurette on some player that we don’t care about, VERSUS feels the need to just have Jonesy and Engblom half-heartedly debate a point that no one cares about, and an award that isn’t given out at the end of the year. It doesn’t even sound like they’re having fun, like the TSN panel. It just sounds so pained and forced.
It’s going to be a long, long, long two months with these guys.
