  1. Greg M says:

So is this grounds to maybe get more west coast games? Everyone always says the reason why national TV only plays east coast games is because there’s more people on the east coast and it’s a convienant time and all that stuff. Well, despite only having a day warning, those Pittsburgh/NYI numbers aren’t very good while the LA/STL was much more decent.

  2. Kevin says:

Surprise.. I’ll told you they would say the Blues/Kings game had more viewers, which is bullshit.. They’ll probably say that yesterday’s Pens/Rangers game also had more viewers (Even though it was also blacked-out in both local markets)..

    • Ryan says:

Just to make sure I’ve got this right, you’re saying it’s bullshit that the VS cast of PIT/NYR, which is the only way anyone can watch that game, will have more viewers than the VS cast of PIT/NYI, which was competing with local broadcasters airing the same game?

      • Gamma1099 says:

The PIT/NYR game was not a Versus exclusive. Both local broadcasters (Root Sports and MSG) also had the game.

  3. Jared says:

They did it just to piss u off Kevin. Next time predict it the other way. Either way these numbers are horrible either way u want to slice it. Soccer draws better (mls). It won’t be good when NBC pays 2 billion and 10 million a yr for next 3 for mls.

  4. tlas says:

Maybe the rebrand is very much needed, after all. I’m actually one of the few who has watched more hockey because of Versus and NBC. These things take time to sort itself out. We’re not Canada, obviously.

  5. Sean says:

Distribution is what they need…72 million out of 115 million. Of the 72m almost half are on a tier 2 packages.

  6. Eric says:

umm MLS (soccer) does NOT draw better numbers. in some games last year they drew less than 16K on Fox Soccer channel. In the MLS cup final game they drew 800K while the Bruins Canucks drew over 8 Million in game 7.

  7. Sean says:

Actually he’s pretty close to right. Espn mls ratings are a .2 (200k) viewers. Google it. Sportsbusinessdaily had reported on it.
