Wait, I thought Canadian teams were supposed a kiss of death in American ratings? How can this be??
Maybe Versus should have gone to Vancouver for game five instead of picking up the Sharks/Kings game. Or at least stream the CBC feed.
They don’t have to pay right fees (at least I believe they don’t) when they show a CSN feed (California, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago), so it makes sense for them to use these feeds when they are not doing an original broadcast of the game. Versus is owned by Comcast, as we all know, so why pay CBC for the rights when you get the product for free from the local CSN affiliate?
Hmm. Versus aired Game 5 of the Vancouver/Chicago series instead of the Sharks/Kings Game 4, so I’m not sure what your complaint is here.
Another interesting factoid, 4 of the 10 games had starts of 10:00PM ET or later combine that with blackouts in those Pacific time zone markets itself and it is remarkable.
And in the Boston market the game was a blackout as well.
Im impressed with the VAN-CHI, MTL-BOS ratings but not really with the other games.
Werent the ratings supposed to surpass 800,000 for this year?
Hopefully we will have over 1,000,000 viewers in the next few years when Versus is available to more homes and with the advertising campaign!
