Jeremy Roenick to Join Big-Name NBC Stanley Cup Studio

Jeremy Roenick appeared on the NHL Network’s/XM Home Ice’s NHL Live on Monday, where he confirmed that he’d be appearing as a studio analyst on NBC’s coverage of the Stanley Cup Final.  Roenick joins an already star-studded (by NHL standards) studio lineup which features host Dan Patrick and fellow analyst Mike Milbury, with Pierre McGuire potentially around as a studio analyst as well.

Roenick previously appeared on NBC’s January 17 telecast of the Chicago/Detroit, as well as every night of NBCUniversal’s coverage of the men’s Olympic Hockey Tournament.  He’s also contributed analysis to TSN during the postseason, and appeared regularly on it’s show “Off the Record”.  Roenick retired last spring after an 18-season NHL career, in which he was one of only two Americans to score 500 career goals (513).

This is great. I think Roenick should replace the boring Eddie Olczyk as NBC’s analyst in the booth.

I really like Edzo, he is probably my second favourite analyst after Craig Simpson.

I also like Mike Milbury when he sticks to talking about what is happening on the ice. Its when he gets into the off-ice stuff on CBC’s Hotstove that he is wrong a lot. He is very good with Kelly Hrudey on the technical side of things.

I think this studio crew will be very good, in fact I’ll probably watch it over MacLean/Cherry on CBC when I have the option. The problem I have with NBC’s regular season studio show is that it seems to be directed at the average sports fan who doesn’t watch a lot of hockey and is simply boring for people who follow the game regularly.

I was hoping for Darren Pang to be the other analyst, but he has confirmed on his Twitter that he is done for the playoffs.

Are there any more clueless people in hockey than Roenick and Milbury?

    There’s kevin.

Roenick on the USA/Can Gold Medal game: “Watch this game. It’s going to be great.” Great insight there…..

Milbury on the Bruin/Flyers series: “The Bruins need Shawn Thornton in the lineup.” Why so he can get beat up by Carcillo again?????

    I rest my case.

Olczyk should stay where he is. I really enjoy his thorough analysis. I liked Roenick when he appeared in the booth before and think its a great lineup. He says things the way it is which is good. I also like the exchanges between him and Milbury – which is sort of reminiscent with Milbury and Glen Healy. Maybe Milbury isnt correct 100% of the time but I like his approach and commentary.
