BREAKING: NBC Ratings For Pens/Wings Down Slightly From Last Week, Still Decent By NHL Standards
February 1, 2010 6 Comments
Sports Business Daily (reg. required) reports that the NBC broadcast of Sunday’s Red Wings/Penguins drew a 1.2 overnight rating, down slightly from last week’s Pens/Flyers game, but up from the overnight from last year’s Wings/Pens showdown, which drew a 1.1 on February 8th, 2009. There is no comparable date from last year, as the network did not air a game on this week in 2009.
NHL On NBC Overnights for 2010:
1/1/10, PHI vs. BOS: 2.4
1/17/10, CHI vs. DET: 0.8
1/24/10, PIT vs. PHI: 1.3
1/31/10, DET vs. PIT: 1.2
Any predictions for next week? Caps/Pens.
Could this be in part to the 700 Telethon being shown in some reasons instead of the game? If the difference is so slight that’s probably a factor.

1.4 Next week
The telethon was being shown most in non-hockey markets. Maybe they lost 50,000 viewers. Not a big differance.
I would think that the omission of an NHL market (Nashville) and a market with a decent number of Pittsburgh transplants (Norfolk), both in the Top 50 DMA’s, might have played even a minor role.
