Small correction on the distribution for HNIC: Habs game (rediculously) is only on in Quebec and BC, and of course NHL Network in the US, and the Leafs in Florida are wrongfully, on in the rest of Canada.
I was shocked too when I checked the CBC’s website. NHL Network in the U.S. usually shows the 7:00 game w/ the biggest distribtuion. Seriously, why do Canadian networks show a bad team like the Leafs across the country (besides ratings)? TSN showed the Leafs/Lightning game over Caps/Pens on Thursday! Toronto is 28th out of 30 teams, it makes no sense to show their game outside Ontario.
TSN has an issue about showing American-only games on a TSN production. They’ll pick up VS broadcasts of American-only games (occasionally), but they won’t generally produce an all-American matchup themselves.
When was the last time Versus aired an all-Canadian matchup though, to be fair?

I think you have answered your own question! It’s interesting that the NHL Network is taking the Habs Rangers game.
The distribution of play by play teams is also interesting this week.
Is it interesting that the NHL Network would take a game with two possibly playoff-bound teams, including one from one of the strongest American hockey markets over a game with two teams that are going nowhere, with one in an American market that literally struggles to attract flies to its broadcasts? Really?
The NHL Network made the right choice on Saturday. I flipped back and forth between the two HNIC games and the Leafs Panthers contest was one of the worst games I’ve seen all season.
Josh +1. I don’t necessarily think NHL Network thought all that through, but it makes sense.
TSN and TSN2 pick up VERSUS and NBC broadcasts in their entirety for their US v US regular season matchups. TSN used to wrap its own intermission around the US broadcast, but that is rarely the case. Of course, TSN used to have only 30-40 games involving Canadian teams and now they have 70+ with Canadian teams and about 50 that are US v US match-ups.
