I understand why people in the States wouldn’t like the TSN feed for the USA – Canada game but I ask you, why did they use JP Dellacamera? I know he was a last minute fill-in for Gary Thorne but still. This is the guy who destroyed World Cup football coverage in the last World Cup, now he is messing up hockey. I can take the fact he is a homer, but he is just a terrible announcer. Aweful…
Maybe, NHL Network didn’t have a lot of options. Gary Thorne and JP Dellacamera were only available probably because they don’t cover the NHL year-round. All of Versus and NBC’s play-by-play guys and color analysts also work for local teams. I can’t think of anyone else who would be recognizable to hockey.

Fair enough, problem is that JP is just as bad at hockey as he was doing the World Cup of Football. People accuse the TSN guys of being homers but he was terriblly one sided for the US…
Leafs fan — are you a US or Canadian citizen? I think the NHL Network management deserves a break here. They had a very popular hockey announcer (Thorne) all set to go until he had to back out at the last minute to attend to a personal matter. As far as we know, Della Camera may have been the only guy they could get on short notice.

I’m a Canadian living in the USA. My comment about JP is not so much about JP’s homerism, if that’s a word, it’s that he is just not a very good play by play guy IMHO. He wasn’t any worse doing hockey than the was doing football for ESPN during the last world cup, but that’s not saying much…
