All well and good….except who is going to get to see Opening Night on Versus?
In other news…. if this web page is to be believed

…then the NHL Network in the States is picking up HNIC at least for the first weekend….
This looks great, wonder if this will reflect higher production values in their broadcast and studio show.
Not that it matters since I’ll be watching Universal Sports in SD since I have DirecTV….stellar

Indeed. Where, one wonders is the NHL brain trust on this issue?
Actually, the way you really promote hockey is to make it available to as many people as possible. So let’shope Versus puts as much energy into settling their contract spat with DirecTV as they do advertising games that millions won’t get to see…
On a happier note, I have just had confirmation from a contact at the NHL Network in Canada that the US side of the operation will be showing FOUR live games on Saturday October 3rd. The schedule looks like this….
12:00p – Chicago Blackhawks vs Florida Panthers [Presumably the TSN Feed]
3:00p – NHL Hockey – Detroit Red Wings vs St. Louis Blues [Presumably the CBC Feed]
6:00p – NHL on the Fly
6:30p – Hockey Night in Canada Pregame
7:00p – NHL Hockey – Toronto Maple Leafs at Washington Capitals
9:30p – Hockey Night in Canada Postgame
10:00p – NHL Hockey – Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers
12:30a – Hockey Night in Canada: After Hours
It looks like NHL Network is also going to be airing “encores” of games shown on RSN’s. Several are listed on their website for the first days of the season.
NHL Network will also have Rangers-Penguins live on 10/2 from the Igloo.
