Despite the NHL’s earlier announcement to the contrary, if both series are over by Wednesday (Chi/Det Game 5) the finals will start on Sat, May 30 and not wait until Fri, June 5.
How do you know?
I will note that while no schedule was given, during the CBC coverage they said the NHL were looking at options to move up the Final if both series end really early, so it doesn’t seem extraordinarily unlikely.
Also, this can’t work because of NBC, which has a series premiere, a series finale, and the opening night of Conan set for Monday, June 1, which’d be game 2.
I could see it now: NBC and Versus deciding to now give games 2 and 3 (instead of 3 and 4) to Versus. Is there ever any smart logic involved? Just think – you could have really shitty nights (Fri. and Sat.) for games 1, 4, and 5 on NBC. Perfect!
(Do you sense my wonderment at why – other than a slight Olympic lead-in – this arrangement even exists between the NHL and NBC?)
I have wondered if the NHL would change the dates because let’s face it both series are over but the will they touch the conference championship trophy question. Let’s assume the everything is done Thursday (both Det and Pit win in 5), there is no schedule that would work for NBC unless they gave Versus Games 1 and 2. However they don’t want to do that because of Conan. NBC is using the NHL has a olympic partner that’s all. The Finals sadly won’t start until the 5th unless some deal is reached and NBC changes there minds. I doubt it though.
